Pros and cons of going with a newer JLU diesels

Looking for pro & con to maybe consider selling my JKU and going with a newer JLU diesel.

    Shake at 30 mph

I'm going with a wheel/tire out of balance, which an alignment won't fix. Check the inside of your front wheels and look for the silhouette of a balance weight that may have come off. I've had this exact same issue, except it was between 48-55 when it would get a little shaky. Got home, lifted...

    Horns don’t work

Not sure which is more effective- the OEM horn or yelling out the window. I've never been more embarrassed than when I've had to lean into the horn the few times I've used it in 10 years. My suggestion: install onboard air that can be used for air tools, airing up tires and an air horn that...

Jeep JKU RTT Roof Rack Question

I have a 200lb Smittybilt Defender rack, and it's only about 4x4. But it holds a Reese cargo bag with a few pieces of luggage inside nicely. At nearly 70 years old and 300lbs, I'm not climbing up and down off the roof to take a leak once or twice a night...lol.

    TPMS troubleshooting dead end

I have a 2014 and went through JScan this morning checking the TPMS. If you have completely disabled it, there is no dash warning, scrolling through the dash menu won't even bring the TPMS up. If the TPMS is completely disabled, it's as if the Jeep doesn't have TPMS installed. There is no...

    TPMS: new wheels and J-SCAN

I've had my 2014 for 9 years now and never had a TPMS issue, and I've had a couple sets of new 35s installed along the way. I disabled my TPMS several years ago because the threshold on JKUs is 30psi, I believe. I keep my tires at 28, so to avoid the constant alarms and dash notifications, I...

    TPMS troubleshooting dead end

If I remember correctly, you have to clear the code(s) first, then disable the TPMS system. I disabled mine with JScan several years ago and it was a 30-second process. I'll be tinkering with my 2014 tomorrow and, if I remember, I'll take a look at it. It'll refresh my memory. This is what...

    New Foglights

Thanks. Mine are great lights, it's just the lenses that are about cooked after 8 years. The ProComps are nice, but they have a polycarb lens as well.

    New Foglights

I've had these for almost 8 years now and the poly lenses are beginning to yellow and crack. Don't get me wrong, the lights are great and, paired with the matching headlights, improved 1000% over the factory. But the lenses look like crap and I'd like to find a foglight that has a glass lens...

What's the best way to fix a rear window defroster that detached?

I'm pretty sure the light is probably connected to the switch/panel lights and isn't a true indicator as to whether the defrost is working or not.

Red lightning bolt / engine light, no heat on gauge

Stuck open is a lot better than stuck closed. That said, sticker shock on the t-stats.... the same t-stat I ordered a couple years ago is about $12 more. Imported by Gates, made in China. I didn't order that specific one, but I did pay over $40 for the housing/t-stat.

What did you do to your JK today?

My recent knee injury (torn meniscus and strained MCL) has rendered my JKU almost too uncomfortable to drive for any more than 60 minutes at a time. I'm 6'6", so the legroom has always been limited, but I've managed to make it work for almost the entire 10 years I've had it. I'm avoiding knee...

What did you do to your JK today?

Going down the thermostat rabbit hole again. Noticed the temp gauge is taking no time at all getting to normal running temps, like, less than a mile. But, it will trip the hi-speed fan on occasionally, and becoming more frequent. Coolant levels are good, but, as quickly as it's warming up, I'm...

Under seat lock box no key

Exactly. Cylinder locks, even good quality, are not expensive. But note any manufacturer names or markings on the front of the cylinder before you drill it. Also measure the diameter and length of the cylinder- you'll need those to replace it with a comparable lock.

    Newbie wanting overland build advice

This is what I had back in the 80s. Owned a 1980 Toyota pickup longbed with an insulated camper shell. These carpet kits were all the rage back then. The seat cushions are hinged so you have storage inside, and when you set the floor boards up for the bed, storage underneath. Was a good night...

    Newbie wanting overland build advice

The Rubi has clearance for a set of 35s. The rest is up to you and you'll figure it our as you go, but secure storage is a priority- don't need stuff rolling around the back. Anyway, we're older and the weekend trips are more our thing. I have a SmittyBilt Defender rack on top- has a 200lb...

What did you do to your JK today?

Based on what you've said, I gathered that he wasn't an older guy, but those rides still help to get him feeling better, I hope. My wife has her late mother's MB SLK350 with the convertible retracting hardtop and every once in a while she takes Cooper (4 yo) out. He thinks he's king sh**...
